Second Ottoman Venetian War

The war between the Ottoman Empire and the Republic of Venice lasted for about 4 years from 1499 onwards.  The war in the Aegean, Ionian and Adriatic seas is known in history as the "Second Ottoman-Venetian War".

The Ottomans, led by Admiral Kamal Reis, won the battle.

One of the battles of this war is the battle of Junkio.  However, it is also known as the Battle of Sapienza, the First Battle of Lepanto, or in Turkish as Sapienza Deniz Muharebisi.  In this naval battle which took place in 1499, the two sides faced each other for a total of four days - 12, 20, 22 and 25 August, i.e. the last one is on this day.

The Ottoman navy was ahead of the Venetian navy in all respects.  In the end, the Venetian forces were also defeated.

Venetian commander Antonio Grimani was captured during the war and sent into exile on the island of Cress.  On the other hand, as a result of the victory of the war, the Ottoman Sultan Bayezid II presented 10 galleys (such ships used for war, trade and piracy) to Kamal Reis.
